Questions people ask
How do I get a Salik tag?
Tags are sold online and at petrol stations. The tag is fixed to the front windscreen of the car or bike, it is rechargeable, and tolls are deducted from it automatically.
What if my tag does not have enough balance?
If you pass a gate without enough balance and do not top up within 5 days, a fine is issued on the vehicle. Passing without a tag can also lead to a fine. The official source does not state the amount.
Do I pay twice for the two Al Safa gates?
No. According to the RTA, a single toll is charged when you cross both Al Safa gates, north and south, within one hour.
Since when do these rates apply?
Variable pricing started on 31 January 2025. Salik's results for the first quarter of 2026, published in May 2026, still count trips at AED 6 peak and AED 4 off-peak.
