Questions people ask
Are the holidays the same for the public and private sectors?
Yes. The public holidays set by Cabinet Resolution No. 27 of 2024 apply to both.
If a holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday, is it moved?
No. Under Article 3 of Cabinet Resolution No. 27 of 2024, a public holiday is not moved to another day when it falls on the weekend or on another public holiday.
Why are the Eid dates "expected"?
Islamic holidays are set by moon sighting, so the actual date can differ by a day from the calendar. The dates here come from the Umm al-Qura calendar; the official announcement comes a few days before.
How long is the Eid Al Fitr holiday?
From 1 to 3 Shawwal. If Ramadan lasts 30 days, the 30th of Ramadan is also a holiday, which makes four days.
What if I have to work on a public holiday?
A private-sector worker gets another day off for each holiday worked, or that day's wage plus at least 50% of the basic wage (Article 28 of the Labour Law).
