Al Marjan Island

Al Marjan Island is a group of four man-made islands off the coast of Ras Al Khaimah, built on reclaimed land by the developer Marjan. It is for day visitors and resort guests who want a beach, a waterfront walk, a run or a ride, with hotels, restaurants and a public promenade on the islands.

What is on the islands

• Breeze Island: the entrance to the development, with over 2,000 m of waterfront and a shopping and waterside area. The developer lists three hotels here: Rixos Bab Al Bahr, DoubleTree by Hilton and Marjan Island Resort & Spa.
• Treasure, Dream and View islands: the other three islands. The developer gives Dream Island over 5,000 m of waterfront.
• Size: the islands reach about 4.5 km into the sea and cover 2.7 million square metres, with 7.8 km of beaches.

Visit Ras Al Khaimah, the emirate’s tourism site, also lists Hampton by Hilton Marjan Island, Radisson Resort Ras Al Khaimah Marjan Island, Mövenpick Resort Al Marjan Island and Rove Al Marjan Island, which opened in 2024. Wynn Al Marjan Island is still being built; the tourism site gives 2027 as its opening year.

Beach, promenade and activities

The developer describes a promenade for walking, jogging and cycling, with shaded benches and children’s play areas, and a white sandy beach reached on foot from the promenade that it calls “open to all”. The tourism site describes a palm-lined corniche with a running and cycling track, electric scooter hire, food trucks and parks, and lists swimming, jet skiing and paddle boarding. The RAK Half Marathon is held on the island every February.

Getting there

Visit Ras Al Khaimah gives the drive from Dubai International Airport as about 45 minutes, using Sheikh Mohammed Bin Salem Road (E11), or the E311 and E611. It names hotel shuttles, Careem, Uber and private transfers as ways to arrive.

Good to know

• The tourism site suggests November to April, when the weather is cooler.
• Some hotel beaches are private, for example the beach at Marjan Island Resort & Spa.
