The best beaches in Dubai, and which ones are free
Every good Dubai beach compared — the free public ones, what beach clubs actually buy you, and the rules that catch visitors out.

Every public beach in Dubai is free, clean and properly maintained, with showers, changing rooms and lifeguards. That is not true of most beach cities, and it is one of the genuinely good things about the place. The paid beach clubs sitting on the same sand are optional.
The free public beaches
Kite Beach — the best all-rounder
Soft sand, calm water, and the most facilities of any Dubai beach: showers, changing rooms, a 14 km running track, volleyball, watersports and a strip of food trucks behind it. Burj Al Arab sits in the background of every photo.
Free. Paid parking at busy times.
JBR — The Beach — best for an evening
Wide beach backed by an open-air mall, cinema and a long promenade. Busiest after sunset, when half of Dubai comes to walk.
Free. Sunbeds and watersports are not.
Sunset Beach (Umm Suqeim) — best photo
The classic Burj Al Arab shot. Quieter than Kite Beach, and one of the few Dubai beaches with a designated surfing area when there is swell.
La Mer — best for families
A developed beachfront with shaded areas, a water park, restaurants and proper facilities. The beach itself is free; everything around it is not.
Al Mamzar Beach Park — best value day out
A large park with several beaches, lawns, barbecue areas and pools, up in Deira. A small entry fee (a few dirhams). This is where Dubai families actually spend weekends, and visitors almost never go.
Black Palace Beach — quietest
An undeveloped stretch between Palm Jumeirah and Burj Al Arab with no facilities at all. Bring everything, take everything away. Best for a quiet swim at sunset.

Beach clubs — what you are paying for
Day passes typically run AED 150–500, often including some food and drink credit. What you get: a sunbed, a towel, a pool, table service, and a licensed bar.
Worth it if you want a full day with shade and a pool. Not worth it if you want a swim and a walk — the water is the same water.

Hotel pool day passes
Many Dubai hotels sell pool access to non-guests for around AED 100–300, usually with food and drink credit. In summer this is one of the best-value things in the city and almost no visitor knows it exists.
Practical rules
- Swimwear on the beach only. Cover up when you leave the sand — Visit Dubai’s guidance is that swimwear is not appropriate in malls.
- Sand temperature. Between June and September it is too hot to walk on barefoot until early evening.
- Flags matter. Red means do not swim; it is enforced by lifeguards.
- No alcohol on public beaches.
- Jellyfish appear occasionally in warmer months — check the flags and signage.
- Saturday and Sunday, the UAE weekend, are the busy days. Weekday mornings are almost empty.

Best months
November to April for comfortable swimming. In midsummer the sea itself reaches bath temperature and gives little relief — see the best time to visit Dubai.
