Jebel Jais
About Jebel Jais
Jebel Jais is a mountain in the Hajar range in Ras Al Khaimah and, at 1,934 metres, the highest peak in the UAE. It is for day-trippers, hikers, families and adventure seekers: driving up and visiting the mountain is free, while the ziplines, camps and restaurants on it are run separately and charge their own fees.
What is on the mountain
- Jais Flight: a zipline 2.83 km long, starting about 1,680 m above sea level; the ride takes about three minutes. Riders must weigh 40–120 kg and be at least 122 cm tall.
- Jais Sky Tour: a two-hour tour on six ziplines linked by a sky bridge, about 5 km in total.
- Jais Sledder: a toboggan ride of about 8 minutes, walk-in only. It was listed as temporarily closed when checked.
- Jais Via Ferrata: a guided climb on fixed steel cables, for experienced adventurers.
- Jais Viewing Deck Park: a viewing park with a telescope and picnic areas; it has a small entry fee.
- Bear Grylls Explorers Camp (survival courses and air-conditioned cabins; children over 8) and Camp 1770 (glamping).
- 1484 by Puro: a restaurant about 1,484 m up; booking ahead is recommended, especially at weekends.
Hiking
Six marked trails total about 16 km. Guided hikes listed for the 2026 season start at 08:00 and cost AED 200 per person, from a 3.5 km beginner route (1–2 hours) to an 8.5 km intermediate route to the Hidden Oasis (about 4 hours).
Getting there
The road is fully paved and does not need a 4×4. The official site gives about 45 minutes by car from Ras Al Khaimah city and about 2 hours from Dubai. The Jebel Jais Tour Bus runs from hotels in Al Hamra and Al Marjan Island for AED 15 per person return, paid by card on board. Licensed taxis can be booked through the Ras Al Khaimah Transport Authority.
Good to know
- The mountain is open 24 hours; attractions and restaurants keep their own hours, so check before you go.
- The top is usually about 10°C cooler than the rest of the emirate, and winter nights can drop below zero, so bring a jacket.
- October to April is the recommended season for outdoor activities.
- Barbecues are not allowed in open areas; use the designated picnic spots.
- Fog and rain reduce visibility on the road, so check conditions before driving up.
