The Flag Island
About The Flag Island
The Flag Island is a public leisure and cultural destination in Sharjah city, developed by the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq). Its central feature is the UAE flag flown on a 123-metre pole, which was opened on 2 December 2012. The pole is surrounded by a ring of three-metre-high lights and by seven lights mounted on seven stands, representing the seven emirates. An amphitheatre with 1,000 seats overlooks the city and hosts cultural shows, concerts and national celebrations. The island also has landscaped open space, a Jones The Grocer restaurant with outdoor seating, and the 1971 Design Space, which holds exhibitions of contemporary design. Visit Sharjah does not publish opening hours for the island, so visitors should check current timings before visiting, particularly for events at the amphitheatre.
