Al Hayl Fort & Village
About Al Hayl Fort & Village
Al Hayl Fort and Village lies in Wadi Al Hayl, about 13 km south-west of Fujairah city. Fujairah Tourism describes the site as a fortified courtyard house with an associated watchtower overlooking the old village of Al Hayl. The fort is believed to date to the 19th century and stands on a mountain about 40 metres above the valley floor, a position that allowed it to overlook several routes leading into Fujairah city. Between 2006 and 2008 the Department of Heritage and Antiquities restored the watchtower and surrounding archaeological sites using the same traditional materials originally used in their construction. The site is listed under culture and heritage, and Fujairah Tourism gives visiting hours of 8:00 am to 6:00 pm.
