Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization
About Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization
Pick a route through ideas, science or art
Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization is in Al Majarrah. It offers several subjects within one museum, so choose a starting interest before arriving. For a first visit, focus on either belief, scientific ideas or artistic objects; trying to cover every gallery at equal depth can leave little time to understand the objects that attract you.
A science-oriented route can begin with the Ibn Al Haitham gallery, then compare one model with an object in the art displays. Ask what problem each object addressed and what material or technique made it possible. An art route can instead compare decoration across two periods. These are suggested observation exercises, not a claim that a named exhibit is always available or an official guided programme.
Admission for a mixed-age family
The authority publishes AED 10 for ages 13+, AED 5 for ages 2–12 and free admission under 2. Two adults and two children aged 6 and 10 therefore cost AED 30 for admission at those categories. This calculation excludes travel, meals and purchases. A child aged 13 belongs in the higher category; the difference matters when budgeting for older siblings.
Some visitors qualify for free entry, including eligible people of determination and seniors 60+ with one companion. Confirm the relevant evidence and category rather than buying a paid ticket first and expecting a refund. Standard hours are 08:00–20:00 Saturday–Thursday and 16:00–20:00 Friday. Ramadan follows a separate timetable; ordinary Friday hours should not be carried into that month.
Build a useful visit, not a checklist
Use the museum’s own location link for your arrival and return plan. Decide whether to finish the museum before another activity rather than scheduling several distant venues close together. If children are joining, give each person one object to choose and ask them to explain their choice afterwards; no equipment or paid workshop is needed for that family exercise.
For a structured activity, ask the museum about the family workshops before organising the day around one. Published programmes are not a guarantee of available places. Check the official holiday exceptions if your trip coincides with Eid or the end of Ramadan. We have verified published visitor information remotely, not the present condition of every gallery, parking space or access route.
