Do you tip in Dubai?

No. Tipping in Dubai is optional in a way it is not in the United States, and nothing bad happens if you do not. It is also normal and appreciated when you do, which is why the question keeps coming up.

The short version

• Restaurants — a service charge is often already on the bill. If the service was good, 10% on top is normal. If it was not, leaving nothing is unremarkable.
• Taxis — round up. A AED 47 fare becomes AED 50. Drivers do not expect more and will hand you exact change if you do not.
• Hotel porters — AED 5–10 a bag is usual.
• Housekeeping — AED 10–20 a night, left at the end, if you want to.
• Valet parking — AED 5–10.
• Delivery — rounding up is normal; app tipping is common.
• Cafés and cafeterias — nothing expected at all.

The service charge question

Many restaurant bills already carry a service charge and a municipality fee. Read the bottom of the bill before deciding: if a service charge is there, an extra tip is genuinely optional, and plenty of residents leave nothing on top.

Why nobody will push

Tipping is not part of how people are paid here in the way it is in some countries, and there is no culture of being challenged over it. You will not be chased, and a bill will not be presented with an expectant pause. If you round up a taxi fare and leave 10% for a good dinner, you are behaving exactly like the people around you.
