Al Khan Beach
About Al Khan Beach
Al Khan Beach is a public beach on the Arabian Gulf in the Al Khan neighbourhood, close to Sharjah city. Visit Sharjah describes a 600-metre strip of sand with a dedicated swimming area and a separate water sports zone, so it suits swimmers, families with small children and people who want to try water sports.
What you can do there
- Swim in the dedicated swimming area.
- Book activities with the surf school on the beach: kayaking, parasailing, surfing and fly boarding.
- Ride a banana boat or play beach volleyball.
- Let smaller children use the playground, which has several slides.
Facilities and certification
Visit Sharjah lists showers, changing rooms and toilets. In 2022 Sharjah City Municipality announced that Al Khan Beach had received Blue Flag certification after work on marine water quality, environmental education and environmental management of the beach. The same announcement said the beach also obtained a certificate from the International Federation for Environmental Standards for People with Disabilities.
Before you go
The official tourism page does not publish opening hours, an entry fee, beach rules, parking or public transport details, and it gives no phone number for the beach or the surf school. Agree prices and times for water sports directly with the operators on the sand.
Combine it with the aquarium and maritime museum
Sharjah Aquarium and Sharjah Maritime Museum are about a five-minute walk from the beach. Sharjah Museums Authority publishes these details on the aquarium page:
| Item | As published |
|---|---|
| Saturday to Thursday | 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM |
| Friday | 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM |
| Joint ticket, adults 13+ | AED 25 |
| Joint ticket, children 2 to 12 | AED 15 |
| Children under 2 | Free |
| Phone | +971 6 528 5288 |
Ramadan hours are different. One ticket covers both the aquarium and the maritime museum.
Good to know
- The swimming area is separate from the water sports zone.
- Al Mamzar Beach is just to the south.
- No official hours or fees are published for the beach itself.
- The Blue Flag announcement dates from 2022; ask on site whether it is still current.
