Is the Museum of the Future worth it?

It depends on what you are expecting, and this is the most divisive ticket in Dubai. At AED 149 it is one of the pricier ones, the visit takes 90 minutes to two hours, and people come out either delighted or feeling they paid a lot for a short walk. Both reactions are fair.

Go if

• You care about architecture and design. The building — a silver torus with Arabic calligraphy cut through its skin — is the most interesting structure in the city, and no photograph conveys the inside of it.
• You enjoy immersive, designed environments rather than objects in cases.
• You are travelling with children aged roughly 5–12. “Future Heroes” is one of the better children’s floors in Dubai.
• You are visiting in summer and want something substantial and entirely indoors.

Skip it if

• You want history, artefacts or information density. There are almost no objects. You will find the content thin.
• You have two days in Dubai and have not yet done Burj Khalifa or old Dubai. This is an add-on, not a headline sight.

The honest criticism

The common complaint is that the visit is short for the price. That is fair. The counter-argument is that the production quality is genuinely high — closer to a themed attraction than a museum — and that the building itself justifies part of the ticket.

The free version

The exterior is visible from Sheikh Zayed Road and from Emirates Towers Metro station, and photographing it costs nothing. For a lot of visitors that is genuinely enough, and it is at its best at night when the calligraphy is lit.

If you go

Book online, several days ahead — timed slots sell out. Take an early one; the floors are compact and crowds affect the experience. Allow two hours, and plan lunch elsewhere, as there is little to eat inside.
