How many days do you need in Dubai?

Three days is enough to see the Dubai most visitors come for — Burj Khalifa and the Fountain, old Dubai and the Creek, and an evening in the desert — with one slow afternoon left over. Five days is comfortable. With fewer than two you are choosing between the old city and the new one rather than seeing both.

What each trip length gets you

Two days

Burj Khalifa and the Dubai Fountain on the first evening, then old Dubai — Al Fahidi, the abra across the Creek and the souks — on the second morning. Skip Dubai Frame and skip the desert. You will have seen the two things people remember.

Three days

This is the standard trip, and Visit Dubai’s own first-timer itinerary is built on the same three days: the Gold and Spice Souks, Al Fahidi, an abra crossing, Burj Khalifa, the Dubai Aquarium and the Fountain on day one; Kite Beach, Alserkal Avenue and Madinat Jumeirah on day two; a desert safari and the Al Qudra cycle track on day three. Five days

Five days adds room for what gets cut: a full day at a water park or Global Village in season, a long afternoon in a mall in summer, a day trip to Abu Dhabi, and a day with nothing planned.

A week or more

You will run out of headline sights and start seeing the city instead — Alserkal Avenue, Al Mamzar, the northern emirates. That is a better holiday, but it is not what most people mean by “doing Dubai”.

How long the main stops take

Most planning mistakes come from guessing durations. These figures come from the attractions themselves or from Visit Dubai.

Geography decides more than the number of days

Dubai is a long city strung along the coast, with the old centre at one end and the desert inland. A badly ordered day puts you in a taxi for much of it; three well-grouped days beat five scattered ones. Group each day by area:

• Old Dubai — Al Fahidi, the Creek, the souks in Bur Dubai and Deira. Best in the morning.
• Downtown — Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall and the Fountain. Best late afternoon into evening.
• The coast — Jumeirah, Kite Beach, the Marina and JBR.
• Inland — the desert, Miracle Garden and Global Village. Each needs its own half-day.

The season changes the plan

In summer the outdoor half of any plan shrinks. Visit Dubai puts the average July temperature at about 36°C, with highs reaching 40°C. In those months, rebuild the same three days around indoor attractions and evenings.

Some sights are seasonal. Dubai Miracle Garden is open for its 2026–27 season, and Global Village runs from 14 October 2026 to May 2027. Outside those seasons, a five-day plan has less to fill. See the best time to visit Dubai and whether October is too hot.

A worked example: four days in late October

1. Day 1 (arrival): Downtown in the late afternoon — Burj Khalifa, then the Fountain after dark.
2. Day 2: Old Dubai in the morning; rest through the middle of the day; Global Village in the evening (open from 14 October).
3. Day 3: Beach morning in Jumeirah; evening desert safari (about 6 hours).
4. Day 4: Miracle Garden and the Butterfly Garden next door (open in season), then the Marina for the last evening.

Every day stays in one or two neighbouring areas, which is what makes four days feel like more.

Common mistakes when deciding how long to stay

• Counting arrival and departure days as full days. On most flights they are half-days at best.
• Booking the desert and Downtown for the same evening. A safari takes the whole late afternoon and evening.
• Planning outdoor afternoons in summer. Move them to the morning or the evening.
• Forgetting seasonal closures. Check opening dates before building a day around a park.
• Underestimating crowds at peak times — see when Dubai is most crowded.

For a stopover, one day covers either old Dubai or Downtown well, not both comfortably. Pick one area.

Is five days too long?

No, as long as some days go to seasonal parks, a day trip or rest. Five days of headline sights alone gets repetitive.

Do I need more days with children?

Plan fewer stops per day rather than more days. Children tire in the heat, and inland attractions need a half-day each.
