About Traditional Craft House

Compare a material, a task and the finished object

Traditional Craft House is part of Al Shindagha Museum’s Creativity and Well-Being pavilion. Its subject is the skilled work behind everyday items, from pottery and cooking ware to textiles and jewellery. It is a museum house within the wider district, not a separate craft market.

Choose an object and follow three questions: what natural material was available, what job the object needed to perform, and how skill changed the material into something useful. A cooking vessel and a decorative garment can reveal different priorities. The house also addresses changes caused by urban life and imported machine-made products; compare practicality with decoration instead of treating all handicrafts as interchangeable souvenirs.

Choose a display visit or a making activity

Reading the displays does not include a guaranteed hands-on session. A workshop has its own date, age conditions and capacity. A dated past programme is not a current promise. If making an object is the purpose of the trip, choose an actual current workshop before adding the house to the day’s route.

For a family display visit, give each person a task to explain: clothing, storage or cooking. Compare the answers at the end. Pairing this house with Perfume House adds a different angle on materials and cultural use, rather than simply repeating another room of similar objects.

Ticket scope and time within the district

The current museum visitor page publishes daily 10 am–8 pm, with last entry at 7 pm. It displays AED 50 for adults and AED 20 for students, but describes entry to two houses; the official brochure instead says the ticket covers all museum houses. Establish the product’s coverage rather than assuming either a separate AED 50 charge for this house or unrestricted entry everywhere.

Two visitors each charged the displayed adult rate would pay AED 100 for that ticket product, before transport or a separate workshop. This is not a quote for two houses bought independently. Student eligibility and group terms need the actual product conditions. Start at the museum’s visitor information point to arrange a route that fits the time remaining before last entry. The published Dubai Culture contact is 80033222.
